Week 5

Part One: Support and Comment on Teammates' Goals (30 minutes) Gary Kuepper Saria Kabbour Part Two: Possible Capstone Ideas (30 minutes) I liked the idea of a co-op game browser that links to Steam. Playing video games is a hobby of mine and I like the idea of a project related to that. Perhaps a project that can link your accounts across different game launchers (Steam, Epic, Uplay, etc.) to view your entire game library in one place. Another idea is regarding iNaturalist, which is a community science database that stores user submitted photos with locality data. It is used to track species presence in an area. The project could pull new species appearances for a user selected region. A third idea is a project that is a consolidated library for all of the streaming services and what they have available in their different regional offerings. Part Three: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal (30 minutes)     This week I went over the structure of the ethics essay and common falla...

Week 4

Part One: Set Your Educational Goals  I would like to achieve my bachelors but also come of this program with a strong coding foundation in java. This is help me pursue my career goals . Part Two: Set Your Career Goals I would like to earn a Staff/T5 position at my current job. One of the largest obstacles that hold me back now is the lack of a degree. It makes me less competitive and is an easy disqualifier. Along with having a degree, becoming more proficient at coding will help align my skillset with the future needs of my job. Part Three: Take a wild guess of your percentile of the ETS Computer Science test   I'm going to say 70% Part Four: Keep Up With Your Learning Journal I spent a lot of time this week researching my ethics paper. I learned a lot about the history of the 'battle' between the Government and private companies over digital privacy.  I also learned a about the types of claims one can use in an argument. This will be useful for the paper but also in lo...

Week 3

Part 1: Study Techniques  One thing that I seem to need to learn every time I try to learn something is that studying really is a skill. That means that it needs to be practiced and habits need to be built and maintained. It also means that you need to be wary of learning bad habits and weaknesses. For me, I am really prone to distractions. If I try to study is a room with a TV or other people I often get off track and will use any excuse to stop studying and look at the TV or talk to the other people. Part 2: Ethics  Reading about ethics highlighted a lot of the ethical issues we face in the technological world. As we continue to advance and technology becomes a bigger part of our day to day lives, our society is going to have to deal with this issues. Are companies responsible for the content they host? Are people entitled to privacy in the digital world? Should humans be replaced in the workforce? These are issues where either side could be right but we are going to n...

Week 2

Part 1: Review and Reflect Learning Strategy: Strengths -  Where to study. I am very good about limiting distractions while I study. I pick out a quiet spot when I can be reasonably sure I will be able to focus.   Thinking Skills. My job involves a lot of troubleshooting and given me quite a bit of practice with it. I am generally pretty good about stepping back and thinking through things step-by-step and from outside the box.  Keeping Notes. I like making my notes organized and easy to follow. I got in the habit in previous math and science classes that allowed a page of notes during exams. I found that I didn't have time trying to figure where on the page was the information I needed and that keeping it organized from the start saved a lot of valuable time later. Weaknesses -  Studying when rested . While I do try to my studying on my days off, I often need to spend time during my workweek to study and the only time I have available for that is often after...
